9-12 Independent Study Program

The KCS Independent Study Program (ISP) is designed to assist families in educating their high school students. As an Independent Study family, your school will be considered an extension of Knoxville Christian School. We will maintain a cumulative file for your student, provide guidance counseling to plan your high school program, administer testing in the ninth grade, provide academic counseling as needed, evaluate portfolios each semester, and assist students in their college search.

Upon completion of Knoxville Christian School's high school requirements and a minimum score of 18 on the ACT or
900 on the SAT, a student will be awarded a diploma and transcript from Knoxville Christian School.

The following elements make up the KCS Independent Study Program :
1. 23 credits are required for graduation.
2.Parents will choose their own curriculum to fulfill the requirements for graduation.
3. The KCS Board of Directors requires each student to read through the Bible during their four years of high school and complete multiple choice questions based upon the books of the Bible. Upon satisfactory completeion, the student will be awarded 2 credits for Bible.
4. A porfolio, which is a sample of a student's work in each subject, is required each semester.
5. Students in grade 9 are required to take the Stanford Achievement Test administered by the Independent Study Program.
6. Students in grades 10-12 are required to take the ACT or SAT yearly.

In order to become a part of the Independent Study Program, families must meet the following requirements:
1. The teaching parent must not work outside the home between the school hours of 8a.m. - 2p.m. Monday through Friday.
2. Parents and students must agree with Knoxville Christian School's Philosophy Statement.
3. All fees must be paid in full before a student is enrolled in the ISP.
4. The following documents must be on file with KCS:    
a. Previous school records    
b. Medical entry exam and immunization record on the official state form.    
c. The student's social security number    
d. A completed Parent and Student Questionnaire.    
e. A copy of the parent/teacher's high school or college diploma    
f. A completed application

Applications and parent/student questionnaires should be submitted with a $25 nonrefundable application fee. Upon review of your application, you will be contacted to set up an appointment to meet with the Independent Study Coordinator and complete your registration.
